I really enjoyed the process of making this piece. Coming from a pop rock background, it seemed easy to transition into a pop style track. I think there are aspects of this that could be used in making a song for a pop artist and could potentially be a hit. It all started with a beat for the foundation of this song. I wanted a groove that would draw people in.

This song is in 4/4-time signature, and I focused on how my kick, claps, and bass tracks responded to each other. For the drum tracks I used a drum machine in Logic Pro X. The kick had a lot of low end but none of the attack sound of the batter head, so I brought up the equalizer around 2k. I added a verb to the drum tracks to give it a live feeling. I had the bass follow the kick pattern, so that it would be a tight low end. To thicken up the bass track I added some chorus and put some reverb to give it a bigger sound. The kick and the claps offset each other as if they are in an epic battle. I wanted this contrast to give the groove and nice bouncy beat.

This piece is in the key of Am and the chords for the harmony track are | Am | C | G | FMaj7 G|  x4, | C | Em | G | F6 | Am | Gsus4 | FMaj7 | G |C | Em | G | F6 | Am | Gsus4 | F | G |. For the sound of the harmony tracks I used Dream voice for the left side and Grand Piano and Pads for the right side. The melody on the first sixteen measures were constructed just by me playing what sounded good to me. The second sixteen measures I used notes from within the chords being played.

I’m not a singer but felt like a rap would sit really cool into the mix. I tried to give it an auto tune sound but didn’t get enough of the effect as I would have liked to. I also recorded a sound effect of a bubble popping and placed it every six measures to add a cool effect to add to the rhythm of the song. I created two synth tracks and used them as an additional spot melody near the end of the song. I split them left and right to add good stereo effect and make the mix sound full. I also created a sampler track and used as a stack to the melody on the last sixteen measures. I decided to create a bass drop using a test oscillator and added a flash reverse from apple loops to bridge the two sections together at measure seventeen.

I added reverb to the drum tracks to give them a live feel instead of electronic. I added reverb to the vocals and bass track as well, to give them a bigger open-air sound. To add even more depth to the bass track, I routed it through a chorus effect. I put an equalizer on the kick to capture some highs that were missing from the attack. I put an equalizer on the harmony, vocal and bass track to get them to sit into the mix better. I cut mostly low end on the vocal mic to get rid of the boom on the bottom end.
